Request of Withdrawal of Courses

  • For withdrawal of course, a written notice must be submitted and received by Parkway College 14 days before course commencement.

  • There is a penalty fee for cancellation:

    • 50% of the course fee if a withdrawal letter is received between 5 to 14 days before the course commences.

    • 100% of the course fee if a withdrawal letter is received less than 5 days before the course commences or no show.

Course Outline

  1. Identify early symptoms of infectious disease in client and report them promptly to the appropriate healthcare professional
  2. Apply and enforce infection prevention strategies within the care setting
  3. Implement, monitor and evaluate individualized care plans tailored to the specific needs of clients
  4. Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide a holistic and coordinated care
  5. Apply effective therapeutic communication techniques to interact with clients and healthcare professionals
  6. Use clear and respectful communication to share client information and observation with hearth care team
  7. Develop and facilitating group and social therapy sessions, ensuring activities are safe and suitable for all participants
  8. Modify activities to accommodate the varying abilities and need of the client within the care setting
  9. Assist therapists in conducting comprehensive client assessment of clients by provide observation and assist in simple clinical tasks in safe manner
  10. Educate clients on the necessary information and skills required for safe and effective participation in therapy sessions
  11. Empower clients through education to enhance their understanding of therapy goals and self-care practices

Who should attend:

Experienced Community Care worker appointed to ensure the implementation of operational procedures in the provision of healthcare (Nursing and Therapy) services in the following LTC setting:

  • Nursing Homes

Minimum Entry Qualification:

  • Obtained WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Community Care) AND
  • With at least 2 years of working experience as CCA in the Community Care Sector

As this course is fully funded by the Community Care sector training grant and not SSG funding, please note that CCOs cannot claim Absentee Payroll from SSG

WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Community Care) - HMI

This programme is brought to you by HMI Institute to empower staff from the Community Care sector who aspire to become competent Community Care Associates (CCA). As a CCA, you will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams while delivering personal care. You will work alongside nurses and allied health professionals to provide seamless and holistic care in community settings. The programme aims to further professionalize the Community Care sector by offering a clear progression pathway for existing care professionals seeking to upskill, as well as guiding prospective learners toward a rewarding career. It provides a comprehensive overview of the skills and expertise required on your journey to becoming a Community Care professional, covering areas such as clinical care, care coordination, and psychosocial and therapeutic elements.

    On-the-job training offers practical, hands-on learning experiences. A key element of this training is the OJT Competency Logbook, which contains competency checklists provided to learners. Once you complete the required tasks and obtain your preceptor’s endorsement, the logbook must be submitted to the Training Providers no later than the final day of the CCA training programme.

A WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Community Care) awarded by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).


Entry Criteria

  • Education: A minimum of a C6 pass at GCE ‘N’ level in any one subject
  • Language: WPLN 4 (Reading, Listening, Speaking) and WPLN 3 (Writing)

KWSH September Class

This programme is brought to you by Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital to enable staff from the Community Care sector planning to become a competent Community Care Associate (CCA). The CCA will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams while continuing to deliver personal care. They will work alongside Nurses and Allied Health Professionals in delivering seamless and holistic care in Community Care settings. The programme seeks to further professionalise the Community Care sector and provide a clear progression pathway for existing care professionals who are looking to upskill themselves and guide prospective learners looking forward to a career in this sector. This programme will provide a comprehensive overview of skills and expertise one can expect as they journey towards becoming a Community Care professional. These will include domains such as Clinical Care, Care Coordination, Psychosocial and Therapy elements.

The course comprises of 2 main components:

a. Classroom sessions (Modules)

  1. Infection Prevention and Control in Nursing Practice
  2. Professional, Legal and Ethical Healthcare Practice

b. On-the-job Training (OJT) On-the-Job Training (OJT) involves practical, hands-on learning experiences. The OJT Competency Logbook is a key document used during this training.

• Once learners complete the tasks and receive their preceptor’s endorsement, the logbook should be submitted to the Training Providers. • Submission should occur no later than the last day of the CCA training programme.

AOP - WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare(Community Care) - HMI

The Assessment-only Pathway (AOP) is designed to certify the competencies of experienced healthcare workers. Healthcare staff with the relevant knowledge and skills can complete the assessment for a WSQ course through the AOP without going through the full Community Care Associate(CCA) training.

  • Candidates who are assessed as "Competent" for a WSQ AOP will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA).
  • Candidates who achieve SOAs for all the modules listed below (seven WSQ + six Non-WSQ) will be awarded the WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Community Care).
