This abridged phlebotomy course is an intensive, targeted training program for skilled healthcare staff without formal phlebotomy training. The program focuses on equipping participants with essential knowledge, practical skills, and safety protocols required to perform blood collection procedures efficiently and confidently.

Course Objectives

​​By the end of the course, the learners must be able to:

1. Describe the clinical laboratory and the specimens it requires
2. Identify the hazards and protocols associated in the hospital environment
3. Perform phlebotomy (Vacutainer and WIS method) on a live subject
4. Identify the procedural complications associated with phlebotomy
5. Define the principles of proper specimen and handling
6. Identify the legal implications associated with phlebotomy​

Training Duration (Hours):

Note: Trainees are to complete 20 live phlebotomy procedures in the clinical setting within six months after the course end date. These procedures must be recorded on a log sheet and submitted to earn a certificate.

Pre-requisite:

Applicants are required to submit Hepatitis B and HIV screening test results prior to training.

Request of Withdrawal of Courses

• For withdrawal of course, a written notice must be submitted and received by Parkway College 14 days before course commencement.
• There is a penalty fee for cancellation:
  • 50% of the course fee if a withdrawal letter is received less than 14 days before the course commences.
  • 100% of the course fee if a withdrawal letter is received on or after the course commences or no show.
