Description

Course Objectives

This 2-day workshop is designed for Community Care organizations and follows a "Train-the-trainer" approach to introduce gardening-related activities for engaging clients. Day 1 focuses on the basics of gardening, including plant selection, watering, fertilizers, and the requirements for plant survival in our environment. It also introduces hydroculture, a soil-less gardening method. Participants will have a hands-on experience with planting. Day 2 covers a range of active, passive, and gardening-associated activities to promote health, well-being, social interaction, and enjoyment of nature. The workshop is conducted by trainers from Hort Therapeutics (Day 1) and the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists (Day 2). The benefits of gardening include physical improvements, cognitive stimulation, sensory experiences, and emotional/social benefits like increased self-esteem and social bonding.

Target Participants:

Nurses, Allied Health Professional, Corporate Services Staff, Programme co-ordinator, Programme executive. Staff attending this course should have some experience in facilitating activities with the elderly and be comfortable in conducting group activities.

Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singapore Citizens / Permanent Residents and 45% for Work Pass Holders working in eligible community care organizations.
