Course Description
The Improvement Toolkit – Basic course introduces participants to fundamental concepts of quality in healthcare and the science of improvement. Participants will learn to apply essential improvement tools, including 6S, Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, and A3 Storyboard, to initiate and participate in improvement projects effectively.
The curriculum introduces developing problem and mission statements, conducting diagnostic journeys, measuring improvements, calculating cost savings, and strategies for sustaining and spreading enhancements. By the end of the course, participants are expected to be able to participate in improvement project utilizing 6S or PDSA methodologies.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this 8 hr course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the principles of quality in healthcare and the science of improvement.
- Develop clear problem and mission statements to guide improvement initiatives.
- Apply the 6S methodology to organize and optimize the workplace environment.
- Implement PDSA cycles to test and refine improvement strategies.
- Understand A3 Storyboard to document and communicate improvement projects effectively.
- Conduct diagnostic journeys to identify root causes and areas for improvement.
- Understand data used to measure improvements.
- Understand the importance of calculating cost savings resulting from improvement efforts.
- Understand how to sustain and spread successful improvements across the organisation.
- Participate in improvement project using 6S or PDSA methodologies.
