Persons living with dementia benefit from non-pharmacological interventions to improve their wellbeing.
Research studies have shown that non-pharmacological interventions which involve reminiscence, reality orientation, and other forms of cognitive stimulation in the context of group activities, can improve cognition, self-reported quality of life, communication, and social interaction for persons with mild to moderate dementia.
Dementia Activities for Cognitive Stimulation course aims to equip participants with the skills to design, implement and facilitate cognitive stimulation activities for persons living with dementia.
Course Objectives
- Design cognitively stimulating activities suitable for persons at the mild to moderate stages of dementia
- Apply person-centred care principles when implementing cognitively stimulating group activities
- Evaluate cognitive stimulation activities according to best practice guidelines
Course Contents
- Characteristics of successful activities for persons living with dementia
- Therapeutic interventions and activities for persons living with dementia
- Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
- Grading of cognitive activities
- Planning group activities
- Design a cognitive stimulation group session plan
- Activity evaluation – quality and engagement process
Assessment
At the end of the course, learners will be required to:
- complete a 30 min quiz on the same day of the course.
- prepare and complete a practical performance on 3rd week after course.

*Upon course confirmation, learners will be required to select a 3-hour time slot for the assessment on the scheduled date.
Who Should Attend
Health and social services practitioners, including allied health professionals, social workers, and programme executives from community outreach teams (CREST), community intervention teams, COMIT, centre-based, and residential care services, who design and implement activities for persons living with dementia. Learners are expected to have prior basic knowledge of dementia care.
