Infection Control Committee Lead Program
The Infection Control Committee Lead Program is an intensive 24-hour blended learning program designed to enhance ICC Leads’ infection control leadership skills. This course covers advanced concepts in epidemiology, infection transmission, outbreak response, and prevention practices. The 8-hour e-Learning module introduces foundational knowledge, while the 16-hour face-to-face sessions offer hands-on experience in IPC audits, environmental cleaning, outbreak management, and infection control during renovations. Through case studies and simulations, ICC Leads will strengthen their ability to lead infection prevention strategies, manage construction-related risks, and ensure robust infection control protocols for patient and staff safety. Course Objectives ​​​​By the end of the course, participants will be able to: Explain the epidemiology of infectious diseases, including the characteristics of microorganisms and disease-causing pathogens. Analyse the chain of infection and identify key transmission pathways in healthcare environments. Define the roles and responsibilities of ICC members and other healthcare staff in infection control. Implement and oversee standard and transmission-based precautions to prevent infection spread. Apply essential principles of environmental cleaning and biohazard waste management. Coordinate and monitor response protocols for outbreak management, including pandemic preparedness. Conduct IPC audits to assess and improve infection control practices within their facilities. Lead training and education initiatives for healthcare staff on infection control best practices. Develop and manage antimicrobial stewardship programs to limit the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) in healthcare facilities. This comprehensive course comprises a 4-hour self-paced e-Learning module that covers in-depth infection surveillance methodologies, effective data collection techniques, and structured outbreak investigation frameworks. Participants will then attend a 4-hour interactive face-to-face session designed for practical application, where they will engage in hands-on activities including data interpretation, infection rate calculations, and scenario-based outbreak responses. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application, ICC Leads will be adept at implementing robust infection prevention protocols, swiftly responding to infection threats, and enhancing the overall infection control standards within their organisations. Identify risk factors associated with HAIs and apply stratification methods to assess infection risks within specific healthcare settings. Lead infection control initiatives, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to communicate surveillance findings and ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols.
