WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Community Care) - Ren Ci Hospital is a programme that provides the aspiring community care worker with a mix of cross-functional nursing and basic therapy skills and knowledge to operate the community health setting. The curriculum follows a modular framework consisting of seven WSQ modules and six non-WSQ modules that provide fundamental knowledge and broad-based competencies to perform the functional roles of a community care associate in the community sector.

This course is customised to the sector's long-term training needs and operating context. The skills covered are cross-functional, varying from delivering personal care to nursing and therapy skills, as these are the skill sets required by the community care worker. The evolving trend in the community care sector is that beyond supporting care needs, the worker will need to assist in basic nursing care functions with the long-term aim of rehabilitation and functional recovery.

This course aims to introduce learners to the different dietary needs and provides context for supporting clients with specific nutritional needs in the subsequent units. Learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of diet types and dysphagia and recognise instances where the necessity for oral and tube feeding may be required. Course Outline 1. Types of Diets 2. Infection Prevention and Control in Nursing Practice equips learners with the Fundamentals of Infection Control which covers the chain of infection, standard and transmission-based infection control and what are the different types of transmission-based infections and the measures to take. The course covers on Waste Management where Learners differentiate between normal general waste and biohazard waste and the proper disposal of waste materials including the PPE used. Learners acquire knowledge on Disinfection and Sterilisation Procedures to reduce bioburden and prevent transmission. Course Outline 1. The fundamentals of infection control 2. Waste management 3. Intervention Implementation is a 16 hour training that allows learners to establish a solid understanding of the biopsychosocial model to comprehend the interconnected influences of psychological, physiological, environmental and emotional effects on individual's health. Learners are also equipped with the knowledge and skills to demonstrate effective communication skills for care plans to ensure clear interactions, collaboration with the healthcare team and understanding and implementation of plans. Learners will also acquire proficiency for care plan implementation which is essential for providing personalized and effective care, ensuring better health outcomes and overall satisfaction. Learners are also taught on monitoring clients during interventions for a safe and supportive environment. They will learn to take prompt and appropriate action in response to clients experiencing adverse reactions to interventions so as to ensure the safety and well-being of the clients under their care.
