Suicide prevention is everyone’s business.


It is our ambition to shift from a culture of silence to one of empathy and openness by empowering the wider community to be more vigilant, and encouraging them to keep a look out for anyone in distress.

"Be A Samaritan" (BAS) is a 2-part programme which aims to equip the community with the skills and knowledge to be a first responder to anyone facing a suicide crisis by engaging and encouraging distressed individuals to seek help and providing them with
emotional support in an empathic manner.

This 2-part programme comprises:

Part 1:
Suicide Prevention 101

In this 1-hour asynchronous e-learning on SP101, be equipped with a basic knowledge of suicide prevention and how to better support anyone who is facing a crisis.
1. Articulate local statistics and the impact of suicide
2. Identify facts and myths about suicide
3. Identify suicide warning signs
4. Explain the suicidal mind
5. Articulate the "3A" approach in responding to someone suicidal

Part 2:
#HowRU Workshop

In this 2-hour workshop, learn practical skills in how to demonstrate the "3A" approach through role plays and assessments to help someone in distress.

1. Identify suicide distress (Alert)
2. Use empathy and ask the Suicide Question when approaching someone in suicide distress (Approach)
3. Match community resources or help available to the person-in-distress (Assist)

Participants below the age of 18 will need to complete a consent form before attending the session.

Please note that you will only receive a confirmation letter directly from SOSL after the workshop is confirmed.

Request for Postponement:

Upon successful registration, any request for postponement must be submitted in writing to community@sos.org.sg at least 10 working days before the course/workshop date and subject to the availability of next class and approval of SOS.

Should the postponement be due to unforeseen medical or compassionate reasons, the registrant shall submit an appeal request to SOS no later than 2 working days after the course/workshop start date. Approvals may be granted with supporting documents and on a case-by-case basis. SOS reserves the right to reject unverified appeals, or those which are not medical or compassionate reasons.

Replacement of Participant:

Upon successful registration, any request for a replacement participant must be submitted in writing to community@sos.org.sg at least 3 working days prior to the course/workshop date and subject to the approval of SOS.

Cancellation by SOS

SOS will exercise all possible care to run the confirmed courses as scheduled. However, in the event of unforeseen circumstances or low enrolment, SOS reserves the right to cancel, defer, change venue, mode of delivery and course/workshop date. SOS will make all reasonable effort to notify participants of changes, should this happen. If SOS cancels a course/workshop, a full refund will be made to registrants.
