Course Description
The Improvement Toolkit Advance course focuses on equipping participants with comprehensive training in the VSM Methodology and its practical application in healthcare improvement projects. Participants will gain hands-on experience in crafting problem and mission statements, gathering and presenting evidence of issues, conducting root cause analyses, and mapping value streams to identify and eliminate inefficiencies and planning and executing interventions.
The course covers key tools such as PDSA, error-proofing, and quick setup techniques, along with practical skills in gathering evidence, generating graphs and survey templates, and managing improvement projects.
The course also includes project management techniques, measures to demonstrate improvement, cost savings calculations, and strategies for sustaining and spreading improvements.
This course emphasizes the preparation of project abstracts, posters, and presentations, ensuring participants are well-equipped to communicate their findings and lead impactful projects.
Learning OUtcomes:
By the end of this 8hr course, participants will be able to:
- Understand and apply the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) methodology to identify and address inefficiencies in processes.
- Craft clear and actionable problem and mission statements to guide improvement projects.
- Use root cause analysis tools to diagnose and address the underlying causes of inefficiencies.
- Implement PDSA cycles for iterative testing and refinement of interventions.
- Apply error-proofing and quick setup techniques to enhance process reliability and efficiency.
- Gather evidence of problems and present findings using graphs, survey templates, and other tools.
- Develop and manage improvement projects, including planning and executing effective interventions.
- Measure and demonstrate improvements, including calculating cost savings from changes.
- Create strategies for sustaining improvements and spreading successful practices across teams or organisations.
- Prepare project abstracts, posters, and presentations to effectively communicate outcomes.
- Lead and complete at least one VSM based improvement project, supported by coaching and facilitation.
