This course applies to the knowledge and skills for therapy assistants/ healthcare support workers working under the directions of qualified clinicians, to assist common cognitive and functional assessments in intermediate and long-term care settings (ILTC).

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

1. Understand their role and purpose of client assessments.
2. Identify common cognitive and functional assessments in ILTC settings.
3. Assist common cognitive assessments safely and correctly under the direction of the clinicians.
4. Assist common functional assessments safely and correctly under the direction of the clinicians

1. Type of functional and cognitive assessments
2. Purpose of functional and cognitive assessments
3. Demonstration on how to conduct the common functional and cognitive assessment e.g. MMSE, 6-minute walk test, TUG, 30-second chair stand
