This course enables psychosocial and support care staff to gain in-depth understanding of caregivers. It introduces tools to enhance their engagement with the caregivers such as assessing their needs using a framework; communication skills to connect with the caregivers; and to match resources to the needs identified.

Course Outline (1 day)
Day 1
• Learn to identify the family caregivers and understand the role of a family caregiver.
• Recognise the current trend on caregiving and its impact on care or caregiving for the older persons.
• Learn to assess the caregiver using a holistic guide.
• Determine the potential resources to match the identified gaps in the assessment.
• Recognise the 4 main styles of communication and to understand how each style works.
• Understand the importance of negotiating in communication.
Target Audience
Psychosocial and support care staff working in the community care sector for 5 years or less.
Trainers’ Profile
Phyllis Lee holds Masters in Counselling and Gerontology and is ACTA-certified by Singapore Workforce Development Agency. A firm believer in active ageing coupled with her post graduate academic training, she has been actively involved in various discussions and activities (relating to ageing issues) both at the societal level as well as with various government departments.
