This advanced course is designed to broaden one’s knowledge base and enhance skills learned in the Certificate course. An emphasis will be placed on enhancing and consolidating participants’ assessment and handling skills. The client/patient practicum of the course involves clients/patients with a variety of CNS lesions (stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, ataxia). The content will be covered through lectures, labs, group problem-solving, and client/patient demonstration by Instructors.

Course Content:

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

• Perform effective clinical skills including assessment, functional goal setting, and handling skills to effectively change a client/patient’s movement, and functional/participation level skills.
• Effectively facilitate typical movement transitions and typical postural responses during the patient practicum sessions.
• Assess the effectiveness of one’s assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of treatment strategies, based on appropriate interpretation of feedback from the client’s responses during treatment and in relation to achievement/non-achievement of the treatment session functional goals.
• Choose treatment strategies and handling skills gained to more effectively assess and treat the client.
• Communicate evidence of growth in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains to modify (regarding the understanding and application of) the NDT approach in the treatment of clients.
• Apply the International Classification of Functioning and Disability (ICF) model in the assessment and treatment of clients recovering from stroke or brain injury.
• Prepare and present a case study of the client seen in the course, including assessment, treatment planning, implementation of treatment strategies and results.

Who Should Attend: The applicant must be a registered Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist (For both conditional and full registered therapist from AHPC of Singapore) who work with individuals’ post-stroke and/or brain injury. The applicant must have completed the 3 weeks NDTA™ Certificate Course in the Contemporary Practice of NDT for the Management of Adults with Stroke and Brain Injury.
