Urinary catheterisation is an aseptic intervention to enable emptying of the bladder by inserting a catheter. It is imperative that this procedure is performed safely to minimise risk of infection. Therefore, adequate training is essential to perform correctly to prevent/reduce complications or injury to patients. This course aims to provide knowledge and skills in performing urinary catheterisation. It introduces the principal management for the insertion and removal of an indwelling catheterisation in accordance to the standard precautions and guidelines.
