Nasogastric tube (NGT) is an important procedure to maintain adequate nutrition for our patients. Healthcare workers must be vigilant in exercising infection control, safety checks and checking for appropriate tube placement before feeding to prevent complications related to NGT feeding.
This course equips the healthcare support worker with the skills and knowledge required to assist in NGT tube feeding. It introduces basic anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract in relation to NGT tube feeding. Safety and precautions before/after NGT tube feeding and recognising the complications of NGT tube feeding will be discussed.
