This course aims to equips the healthcare support worker with the skills and knowledge to care for patients by assisting patients with their daily physical hygiene such as performing assisted bath or bed bath, oral hygiene, skin and foot care and basic eye care.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

1. Prepare to perform basic hygiene activities.
2. Perform assisted bath for patients.
3. Assist patients with bed bath.
4. Assist patients in oral hygiene.
5. Assist patients with skin and foot care.
6. Assist patients with basic eye care.
7. Reinstate work area.

Course Outline

1. Basic anatomy and physiology of skin
2. Maintaining skin integrity
3. Activities/tasks skills in maintaining personal hygiene (oral care, perineal care, hair, skin and foot care) & type of patients who needs assistance and the types of basic hygiene care
4. Assist showering and bed-bathing
