Understanding Dementia: Nature and Impact of Dementia
Course Objectives
This modular course aims to provide learners with an introduction to dementia and its impact, and ways to assist the person with dementia through Person-Centred Care. By the end of the course, learners are able to:
- Describe the signs and symptoms of dementia, delirium and depression
- Identify the common causes and risk factors of dementia
- Recognise the general management of dementia.
- Identify the stages and progression of dementia.
- Describe the impact of dementia on Persons Living With Dementia (PLWD) and their caregivers
- Describe the impact of environment on PLWD and their caregivers
Course Content
- Signs and symptoms of dementia, and common causes
- Impact of Dementia in Singapore, on the persons with dementia and on the family caregivers
- Impact of the environment on the persons with dementia and their caregivers
Assessment
At the end of the course, learners will be required to complete an online assessment in class. A maximum of 1 hour will be given to learners to complete the assessment.
Who Should Attend
Support care staff, ancillary care staff, corporate services staff and volunteers who would like to be equipped with a basic understanding of how to care for people living with dementia in a variety of settings including the family home, centre-based services, and residential care facilities.
SNB-CPE points will be awarded.
