Purposeful and Meaningful Engagement in Dementia Care

Course Objectives

This modular course aims to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to promote meaningful activity and engagement to meet individual needs of persons living with dementia.

• Recognise the value of promoting activity and engagement with life for a person with dementia
• Identify goals of engagement to promote different aspects of wellbeing
• Identify ways of adapting activities to meet individual needs
• Develop an individualised activity plan for a person with dementia

This course is one of the 5 modular courses that can be stacked to attain a “Certificate of Accomplishment” in Foundations of Person-Centred Dementia Care. Refer to the roadmap for all the other modular courses below. Learners can choose to register for individual modular courses that meet the immediate needs at their own pace, and a “Certificate of Performance” will be issued upon the successful completion of each course.

Assessment

At the end of the course, learners will be assessed via a 1 hour virtual oral questioning session on their competencies acquired through the learnings.

SNB-CPE points will be awarded.

Who Should Attend

Support care staff, health and social practitioner who have no prior training in dementia, ancillary staff, corporate service staff and volunteers who would like to be equipped with a basic understanding of how to care for people living with dementia in a variety of settings including the family home, centre-based services, and residential care facilities.
