Course Objectives

Foundations of Person-Centred Dementia Care is endorsed by the Alzheimer’s Disease International. Based on Person-Centred Care principles, the course emphasises on bestowing personhood on the person with dementia as a social being, providing recognition, respect, and trust (Kitwood, 2011).

This course consists of 5 modules:

Upon completion of all modules (excluding Foundational) within maximum of 6 months, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. SNB-CPE points will be awarded.

The Core Module 2 – Behavioural Communication aims to equip learners with strategies for effective communication with persons living with dementia, and facilitate understanding of behaviour change as a means of communicating unmet needs, so as to apply a range of options to manage the impact of behaviour change.

  1. Identify strategies for effective communication with a person with dementia
  1. Understand behaviour associated with dementia
  1. Identify potential triggers for behaviour associated with dementia
  1. Identify a range of options for managing the impact of behaviour change
  1. Identify signs that would alert you to the possibility of elder abuse

Who Should Attend

This module is intended for front-line care staff and volunteers who would like to be equipped with a basic understanding of how to care for people living with dementia in a variety of settings including the family home, centre-based services, and residential care facilities.
